Sample Wedding poem

One of my strangest commissions was for a friend who wanted an ode to the wedding cake, not too strange you may think but he and his partner were getting married in Guatamala! Here’s a slice of their poem:

Third verse:

So I sat down to write, not an egg yolk in sight
But I knew that this poem is central
I must mention Aztecian and Spanish and Mexixcan
‘cos the cake’s an old Mayan Temple

Last verse:

Raise your glass at this feast, turn your bodies due East
Let’s hear the best toast you can make
To Karen and Jim, that’s her and that’s him,
And one great big cheer for the cake.

(Look up the ingredients and legend behind a Gutamalan wedding cake!)

This second sample Wedding poem was written to be read by the Mother of the Bride who was marrying the man she had been engaged to for seven years:

First verse:

I don’t know who’s more nervous – the mother or the bride
but my heart is overflowing with joy, and love, and pride
What a beautiful occasion to welcome many friends
to join us at this wedding, the seven year itch doth end!
